Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is a great non-surgical treatment to significantly reduce musculoskeletal pain and accelerate the recovery of an injury.  Using only sugar water and a special injection technique, it is possible to produce a rapid healing response in mild to severe injuries and medical conditions.

There is a high success rate to use this simple injection technique to heal a wide range of injuries.  By itself Prolotherapy, has the ability to heal pain but in combination with either PRP and/or Stem Cell Therapy, this treatment has helped patients overcome severe injuries and even prevent surgery.

What is Prolotherapy?

In 1937, Prolotherapy was invented when a surgeon accidentally damaged his thumb by jamming it into a door.  All of the surgeon’s colleagues told him that he may not be able to operate on patient’s anymore and so he set out on finding a solution.  He heard about an area of medicine “where herniologists” were using irritating solutions to repair damaged connective joint tissue and applied this knowledge to his own injury.  His thumb was fully healed and he was able to be a surgeon again.

Prolotherapy disrupts tissue at the injection site to cause a low grade inflammation.  This simple irritation provokes a renewed healing response from the body applying increased growth factors to the site of injury.  In this way, the body is getting a double boost of potential healing power and in many cases, this is enough to significantly reduce pain and immobility.  Since this treatment is non-surgical and non-toxic, it can be applied multiple times throughout the course of several months until the desired outcome is achieved.

The sole act of increased inflammation elevates the amount of growth facrots that initiate the repair of connective tissue.  Biopsy’s often show the strengthening of tendons and ligamenets and ligament thickening after a Prolotherapy injection.  Prolotherapy treated a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries and can be applied as both a short-term and long-term solution to one’s injury.

Types of Prolotherapy:

Dextrose Prolotherapy applies a concentrated does of dextrose (sugar water) or saline) and other natural substances.  In Dextrose Prolotherapy, these substances along with Dr. Bieber’s injection technique under ultrasound guidance act as an irritant to produce the desired inflammatory affect that then elevates the level of growth factors in the area.  The increased growth factors compounds the potential healing affect.

Dextrose Prolotherapy is used by physicians throughout the country and can halt the development of severe musculoskeletal conditions.
